Skype

I have now experienced Skype and can I just say, BEST INVENTION EVER!
We were supposed to use Skype for our Christmas phone call with Dylan but I had never used it before. Glenn had so he already had an account and kept telling me things were ready but I must admit I was a little worried leading up to the big day. I kept asking him questions like "So we just put his name in and hit send or something and he's there?" "Don't we have to pay money or does he have to pay money or anything?" The whole concept was a little hard for me to grasp. And then there were the unspoken worries, mainly will we be able to hear him? My experience with internet phone calls had not been good so I was imagining the same thing. Also when we talked to Ben in Spain the connections were not very good and with everyone on the phone it was kind of hard to hear. So anyway I was worried.
We did a trial run earlier in the day and called my sister in Maryland. They were not expecting it and I was not expecting how fun and easy it was. Our whole family could talk to their whole family! We could see all and hear and it turned out just great!

After that the countdown was on. (And the worrying continued, not knowing if Skype to Mexico would be as good as the one to Maryland.)
Well I'm pleased to report that it was every bit as good and better! (No offense to my sis, but this was my son!) Glenn did whatever he did to call him and there he was! He just appeared on the screen and we started talking.
It was such a great experience! Now in the past I've heard of some missionary phone calls being 3 hours long and I've thought what on earth do they talk about for 3 hours? Well I guess I know now, the answer is Everything! We were on for about 2 hours with Dylan and it didn't seem like that long at all. We talked about everything. We laughed. We told stories. The kids showed him their presents. We showed him the dogs. We even tried Tamarind a spicy Mexican fruit snack while he watched our reactions. It was such a great night.
Here are a few pictures from our call. And yes these are just a few because I took about 30! One of the best things about these pictures is being able to see all of his familiar expressions. I've really missed this face!

Holding his list of things he wanted to tell us about.

This is what it looked like on our end.

Sister K. She's been feeding and taking care of Dylan since he's been there. This family had two laptops so both he and his companion were able to Skype with their families at the same time. I'm so grateful to them!

I know this is a mom thing but here are all of his fun expressions, enjoy!
