That's right homemade donuts. I haven't made homemade donuts since I was little and wanted to try it with the kids. A couple of weeks ago we did cinnamon rolls for the same reasons. (Plus Glenn buys these gross little "cinnamon rolls" from Costco and my philosophy on that is if you're going to put the calories in your body at least make it worth it.) Anyway the donuts were good but we ended up feeling a little greased logged after consumption and I'm not sure we'll do them again. Cinnamon rolls yes but donuts maybe in another 30 years.
Later that day we decided to do some exploring in Alpine and ended up in the foothills at the Rodeo grounds. We found a little trail and followed it up the mountain for awhile until it got too snowy. Along the way we saw 6 deer that came out of the trees and bounded across an open snowy area. It was cool because against the white we could see them really well and the kids have never seen them bounce along like that. We didn't stay long but that set William and I up for our adventure today. Today I Googled hiking trails in Alpine and realized that the Rodeo Grounds are part of a huge park called Lambert Park which is essentially a large chunk of the foothills area in Alpine. 255 acres to be exact just covered with trails. My info said it was built by mountain bikers but also boasts trails for motor vehicles, and horses.
Will and I ventured out today and had a great time. We weren't there long but we had the place to ourselves and Otis got a good run. We hiked to the water tower just for fun but that was a little steep for his bike so it got stashed for a few minutes. When we came down we found the main road that ran north and south along the edge of the park and followed it for awhile. That was great for his bike and will probably be the way we go when we return with the rest of the fam. I can't believe I've lived here so long and have never been up to this great romping area that is a mere 10 minutes or so from my house. I'll blame it on being preoccupied by having babies. Hopefully my new find isn't crawling with people come summer, that is one problem we always run into around these parts. Oh well, since I'm a transplant I guess I can't complain too much:)

For some reason Will was enthralled with the mud. He even said this is my favorite mud. I think he probably just hasn't been around mud for awhile and forgot how cool it is.
